I am enclosing herewith copies of the history of the following branches of our forefathers: Falk Geisenheimer Kulp Rapp Schlesinger Toeplitz. These pages were copied from the volume "A genealogical Study of the Jewish community of Frankfurt 1340 to 1849" by Alexander Dietz, published in 1907 and translated into English in 1989. It will be noticed that daughters are not ever mentioned in this study, only sons, therefore it is difficult to pin down exactly just which branch of the Kulp Family Fradle Kulp originated from. In the Schlesinger section, 6 out of 9 sons are listed, but none of the daughters. You will see that some of our ancestors were very poor, others very well-to-do, so they do represent a good cross-section of the Ghetto population. The story of the Kulp Family, although somewhat lengthy, shows that the Ghetto population even in these days, was engaged in lots of internal politics. I also have included copy of a section of the family tree which my grandmother Auguste Bischheim made up for me in 1937, a year before I left for the United States. Please note the beautiful handwriting. Since it was written in German in the old-fashioned Gothic Script it would be almost impossible to read by to-day's generation. This family tree, which reaches from the middle of the 18th century until 1937 was invaluable for this project. If anyone should be interested in the unique history of the Jewish Community in Frankfurt, I wish to refer them to Simon Bischheim's book about the Bischheim Family, and to the above mentioned book by Alexander Dietz, which is among my books in St. James. |
